Day 6 on the road to Reader’s Studio 2017

Tuesday seems to be like it is a relief it sin’t Monday but really I have had a hard time with Tuesdays.  But it is second day of the work week, right? We know there is only 3 more “work days” to go after it is over.  What Tarot less can we learn from our deck today to help us move through out the day?

Page of Cups!  Well there you go! Time to engage my creative side.  Maybe more art work or my chosen art, Cross Stitching! I have a couple of things I am working on so it is time to give myself some focus on this and get those projects done. What art can you work on?  Share if you like.  I will do the same as soon as I finish the small project.

Day 5 on the road to Reader’s Studio 2017

Back in the saddle again! Yep Off to the day job and keeping the office running as well as myself. Just a few more weeks then it is on a plane to see the folks at RS17.  I can’t believe i have been attending off and on since 2007.  Yes to some folks that is not much as they had been attending since the beginning, but for me this is a good thing to celebrate.

So what card did we get for today?

Knight of Cups- Carry my love of Tarot and RS to others who are new to the event! Got it! And keep sharing my knowledge and light. I am looking forward to the new things I will learn as well as sharing my perspective on reading with others. This should be a great year.

Day 4 on the road to Reader’s Studio 2017

When I think of the adventures of the day and the fact that I get to go to a baby shower and see chosen family expanding their family, it makes me smile. Going to Reader’s Studio helps me expand my chosen family each time I attend.

So what card did I get for today?

8 of Pentacles: I get to create things that are my own. They may be influenced by people in my life but this time it is mine. I can do the work and make something that brings me joy and fulfillment. The choice is mine to do the creating. I know- Just write the book!

Day 3 on the road to Reader’s Studio 2017

It is Saturday and I had a nice breakfast with my mom.  She is a very strong woman who inspires me everyday.  If she had Paganism around her as she grew up I am sure she would be a very powerful Coven Leader. She is loving and cares for the people in her community as well as her family. It is something I try to do in my community and for my chosen family as well.

And the card for today is:

9: The Hermit- Time to do some inner soul work. Get in touch with what I am looking to do with my Tarot. Focus on the part that makes me happy. Enjoy the quiet contemplation of the possibilities. Make my plans and create the steps I need to follow. It is time to get clear.

Day 2 on the road to Reader’s Studio 2017

It is Day 2 on the road to RS17! And yes I am gearing up for a terrific time.  I am sharing a room with Jaymi Elford and Andrew McGregor. They are both very creative and I hope some of it rubs off on me to actually get things out in the world besides my teaching and podcast.

So here is our draw for today:

12:The Hanged Man- Well dear reader I guess you know what that means. Yep, I am stuck in a space that is not bad just stuck. Time to look at a new perspective and imagine things in a new way. Just a reminder: I hold the keep to keeping me where I am.

Day one on the road to Reader’s Studio 2017

It is that time of year again where I head to the East Coast to participate in Reader’s Studio put on by The Tarot School.  I had a blast last year and was excited to go again this year. I was so happy to see some names I have known for a bit up on the Reader’s Studio stage this year, Kooch and Victor Daniels as well as Ferol  Humphrey and then a new to me voice Mitchell Osborn. I am looking forward to all I will learn this year as well as seeing folks again.

So I decided to pull a card a day to lead up to arriving at RS17!  This year I am using the EveryDay Witch Tarot by Deborah Blake and artist Elisabeth Alba.

Day 1: 4 of Wands- Celebrate the gathering together of my tribe. Rejoice in our love of all things Tarot and celebrate what we will learn and the camaraderie we will gain this year. Sweet! I can’t wait!

Down to Brass Tacks with Lenormand with Marcia McCord November 16, 2013 1-4 pm

I am exploring Lenormand readings and will be attending Marcia’s class at Mission Alchemy Event Space so I thought I would share!

Here is the Write up and link to the class:
Down to Brass Tacks with Lenormand:
This introduction to beginning Lenormand readings will include how to read 2, 3, 9- card readings as well as beginning the Grant Tableau.
All levels of interest and experience welcome.
This workshop runs from 1:00pm — 4:00 pm and is being held at the Mission Alchemy Event Space, 2601 Mission Street, San Francisco. We request that you preregister for the class.

About Marcia McCord:
“As life is comical, so might tarot be. As life is sacred, so might tarot be. As life is dignified, undignified, crystal clear, clear as mud, joyous, dark, sad, light, inherently good, fatally faulted, profane and revered, so might tarot be.”
Marcia McCord reads Tarot professionally. She is also a student, teacher, creator and collector of cards, cats and the human experience. She writes a column “Tarot for Life” for Timeless Spirit Magazine.

I am looking forward to this class and would suggest it to others as Marcia is a good teacher and fun to work with. See you on the 16th!

SF BATS 2013- My one day whirlwind adventure!

I was able to attend day one of SF BATS in San Jose. I contributed to the Indiegogo campaign and received a copy of the now out of print Gilded Reverie Lenormand by Ciro Macchetti which I had been meaning to get when Ciro fist shared this on Facebook and then his site as I was at the Tarot School‘s Reader’s Studio where he first chatted with Rana George about Lenormand Oracles and the spark that started in him for it. (It really is awesome watching two people inspire each other. She is coming out with her book in 2014 from Llewellyn! But more on Rana in a little bit!)

I am a Daughter of Divination and I love doing SF BATS every year. I get to reconnect with fellow Tarot people, see new decks, learn new techniques and get reading from people who come out just for this event produced by the lovely Thalassa. It was the 22nd year of SF BATS and we were in a new hotel than in the previous 2 years of this being a two day event. This was cool because it is was in the hotel that holds PantheaCon so I was very familiar with it and felt at home. The only weird part of being there was that it was JUST Tarot people verses every flavor of Pagan one could think of in one place. But this just made this event that much more special.

I also had one more layer to awesome to this event which was I got to have Jaymi Elford visiting too. I first “met” Jaymi in a book collection, Ravens in the Library, that was written for one of my favorite performers SJ Tucker. Then Jaymi was at SF BATS to do a presentation on writing & Tarot in 2009. My husband Andrew had taken her class and we all chatted during the breaks and found we had other connections like her story in the Ravens in the Library as well as having read other things she had written in Witches and Pagan Magazine. We have been friends ever since and she has shared many adventures with me from more SF BATS and trips in New York to attend The Tarot School’s Reader’s Studio. She is a cheerful ball of amazing to be around and always makes my BATS experience that much better.

So even before it started, SF BATS was already wonderful. However the roaster of Speakers made it even better for me. I was looking forward to hearing Rana George‘s talk on Lenormond as she was how I found out about it, Carrie Paris whose blog posts have inspired me to look at divination in other objects, and Gina Jean who I only get to see at Reader’s Studio. I was fortunate to meet Tiffany Davis who wrote the New Orleans Voodoo Tarot book. Unfortunately I was not able to spend as much time as I would have liked with some of the other terrific guests such as Valentina Burton, Major Tom Schick, David Alexandre and Ferol Humphery from Texas, Marcia McCord, Mark Ryan or Julia Cuccia-Watts but I was told their presentations were terrific. (You just can’t be in 3 places at once as each session time has 3 choices of things to see!)

I did attend Rana’s 2 part presentation on the Lenormand. She got me on board when at Reader’s Studio we traded her Pixie’s Astounding Lenormand for my Hello Tarot deck. Then she showed a bunch of us during the lunch break how to use Lenormand which was when it seems to take off to what we Oracle lovers know today. (Some of us had blinders on to this wonderful oracle. Tarot was our main love back then.)

She shared how one looks at each card, and gave us samples of the many decks that are out in the world as well as the deck her son Ryder created! One reads the cards as a sentence and the question and context is the most important. This is a very literal oracle. The First card sets the theme of the reading and the other cards add flavor and explanations to the reading. Another key to Lenormand readings is NOT to ask open-ended questions. This is very different than Tarot Readings. So I am still learning how to use these cards.

I then went back to the main room and enjoyed helped people at the Tarot Media Company table and the Speaker’s Table. Next I watched Bill Haigwood, creator of the Counterculture Tarot, presentation being done in the main room as that is where the TMC merchandise table was. It was very informative but I was not giving it my full attention because I was still swimming in information from Rana’s presentation but the people who were in the audience of his presentation were really involved and many purchased his book and deck after the workshop.

Next I took Carrie Paris’ Magpie Oracle workshop. She had us break into small groups then shared her oracle and hand outs with each group. She shared her study on different forms of divinations that she had studied that were not cards like the I Ching, the casting of lots, stones and shells as well as even using the Hustle to divine. We did 3 readings with her MagPie oracle: One was picking 1 word for each of the Major Arcana cards then tossing the oracle on the sheet and seeing where the symbols landed. We read each symbol and how they related to the card or cards they landed on. Next we did the same with the August Calendar and looked at what those symbols could mean on the days they landed on. Lastly we picked a single charm at random for the Full Moon. It gave me a new way to look at the Lenormand in this non-traditional form and expand how to just look at symbols in general.

After this I was ready for some quite and foods so I was off to dinner and to decompress. Unfortunately I was not able to part take in Day 2 of SF BATS as I was needed to officiate the wedding of some dear friends in Mendocino. And Honestly I don’t know if my brain could have handled more after all the amazing things I saw and the wonderful people I chatted with and I am looking forward to SF BATS 2014. And Yes I have my pre-reservations already!

What has Rose Red been doing? Reading cards at SciFi Cons & Tarot Cafes in San Francisco and Fremont

I am a Tarot lover at heart. I share my decks and readings everywhere I can. This year I posted fun readings in the newsletter at my local SciFi/Fantasy Con as our theme was more on the Fantasy and Dark story lines than in past years. It was fun.

Here are the posts for you to look over.

Newsletter #1 – Friday Early

Newsletter #3 – Saturday Early

Newsletter #5 – Sunday Early

Newsletter #7 – Monday Early

I also have been doing more SF Tarot Cafe and Fremont Meet N Greet Tarot MeetUps. Both of theses groups have amazing people in them and I learn something new each time I attend. SF Tarot Cafe meets weekly on Tuesdays at Borderlands Cafe in San Francisco and Fremont Meet N Greet meets the first and third Fridays of the month. Each group is interesting and provides me with new experiences each time I attend.

Yule Reading

It is the time of year where we all reflect on the past and look to the future. We take time to see what we have achieved and begin thinking about the new year.

I have found that doing spreads for questions really helps me connect to my Tarot and my questions specific focus. I was wondering about the new year and what it will hold for me and created the Yule Wreath Spread. I went to the san Francisco Tarot Cafe and shared it there. Here is the Spread and what cards I received.

First separate your deck into two piles. One pile is Major Arcana and the other is Minor Arcana.

Next mix up the pile of Minor Arcana and pull 4 cards, face down, and lay them out clockwise, first card at 12, second card at 3, third card at 6, and fourth card at 10 position. Set that stack to the side.

Pick up the stack of Major Arcana and shuffle. Pull one card, face down, to help you through out the year and place it in the center of the spread.

Turn over each quarter one at a time and figure out what will be important in that time of the year. After that, turn over the center card to see which Major will help you through your quarters.

I did mine and this is what I received:

First Card/First Quarter of the Year: 4 of Cups

New opportunities are within reach if you choose to take them. You don’t have to if they are not right for you.

Second Card/Second Quarter of the Year: Queen of Wands

You will be busy but things will be going well. You will be living your passions and leading others to keep the fires burning.

Third Card/Third Quarter of the Year: Knight of Swords

Charging forcefully may get things done but make sure it is what you want to accomplish.

Fourth Card/Fourth Quarter of the Year: Page of Pentacles

Getting grounded is the key. Make sure you are in a space to be ready to group and change.

The Major Arcana is: Empress

Using your skills of growth and fertility to feed the year, you will grow as you go through the quarters. You have the strength and the Goddess is with you on this new journey.

Not a bad reading and very balanced. So I will be working on many projects in the new year and seeing where it leads me.

Happy Yule to you!
